With his wooden rod, this little figure, called the « Pillar Genie », holds up the central, most important pillar of Strasbourg Cathedral. This genie represents the force of nature which was called upon in planting the rod in the earth during the cathedral’s foundation ritual. The energetic power of the cathedral depends on it.
