The Wise men’s sundial
This sundial, which was made to face southward, represents a fragment of the tympanum from St Peter’s Abbey at Moissac.
It illustrates St John’s vision reported at Chapter 4 of the Apocalypse : the scene recaptures 6 of the 24 apocalypse elders wearing gold crowns on their heads. In addition they each hold a harp and a golden goblet full of perfume which represents the prayers of the saints.
