These towers are a miniature replica of the ones at the entrance to the town of Domme, near Sarlat in the Dordogne. They were one of the countless prisons in which the Knights Templars were imprisoned after their arrest upon the order of the King of France, Philippe le Bel, in 1307. Thus was the annihilation of this order of monks sealed. The monks had taken part in the Crusandes in the Holy Land and in the reconquest of the Iberian Peninsula.
